On a breezy but nice afternoon the School faced the Old Boys in our annual match up at Ashridge Golf Course. A lovely setting for such a lovely event.
With a number of pupils and Old Boys otherwise engaged both teams had pulled in some unfamiliar faces into the team but this did not affect a highly competitive match.
Pair 1 – OB win 1 up
Mike Atkins & Ted Holland v Leo E & Oscar B.
Leo (a Year 7) is a star in the making and was teamed up with Oscar (Year 12) who hits the ball over 320 yrds every drive. An exceptionally close game ensued with the Old Boys never getting clear of the boys resulting in the match coming down to the very last hole where the Old Boys managed to just sneak a win.
Pair 2 – OB win 2&1
Andrew Rooke & Mark Spooner v Angus B and George T
The school were up during the front 9 but the experience of the Old Boys came through on the back 9 who managed to turn things around and won it on the back 9.
Pair 3 – OB 2 up
Matthew Dennehy & Ali Spooner v Luke G & George L
After a slow start from the school everything changed around the turn with the school winning 4 of 5 holes to take the lead. After going back to all square on the 5th, the long par 3 6th was a decisive win for the Old Boys who then managed to hold on for the final 3 holes.
Pair 4 – School 5&4
Oli Holdroyd & Mr Ben Evers v Arlo P & Dougal W
After a slow start from the Old Boys and going 3 down after 5, they managed to pull it back to 1 down. Arlo did not give an inch and the very odd bad hole he had was well supported by Dougal. In the end a fading pair of Old Boys lost 4 and 3!
