Fundraising for Anniversary Fund for Life Changing Bursaries

Can you offer support by donating a ‘promise’?

In April 2024, the School will be hosting an Evening Dinner and Auction of Promises, inviting approximately 125 guests while others will participate online. All the money raised will go towards our Anniversary Fund for life-changing bursaries: there is no overhead: every penny will support a deserving pupil.

Would you consider supporting the Auction? You might, for example, consider supporting the Auction by donating gift certificates, merchandise, services, holiday homes or access to remarkable, one-off experiences for others to enjoy. Many thanks to those of you who have already contributed. It’s thoroughly appreciated.

In a recent letter to our Principal, Richard Backhouse, such a pupil who attended Berkhamsted wrote the following:

Being given the opportunity to study at this amazing school and environment was like a light that appeared to me when I was in my darkest time of life. I am very thankful for the two amazing years I had in this school and for the amount of support everyone in the school gave me. I could never imagine how it would be without this support. So I wanted to say thank you for giving me this opportunity and trusting on me sir, this opportunity has opened the way to many other opportunities in my life and I am so grateful for it. I have learned so many important lessons from this school and teachers and members of staff that will help me forever in my life after Berkhamsted and I hope one day I make the school proud and return favour by helping others. Thank you so much.

We understand that not everyone will feel in a position to contribute – with an auction lot, or by bidding on a lot, and we do not want anyone to feel under pressure to take part in any way. At the same time, however,  we would like to share this opportunity across our community.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Richard Thompson - Assistant Vice Principal (External Relations)
