Auction of Promises: Berkhamsted School – April 26th, 2024

Fundraising for Anniversary Fund for life changing bursaries

Can you offer support by donating a ‘promise’?

I hope that you will take a few minutes to read about our upcoming event and decide to participate by donating to our Auction of Promises.

In April 2024, we intend to host an Evening Dinner and Auction of Promises, inviting approximately 125 guests while others will participate online. All the money raised will go towards our Anniversary Fund for life-changing bursaries: there is no overhead: every penny will support a deserving pupil.

Why are we doing this? We’ve seen the difference that highly motivated, highly able students from very different backgrounds make to our School community, and the benefit they bring to our existing students. In addition, and more obviously, we have seen life-changing bursary pupils go on to highly selective universities and towards futures their abilities deserve, and which their circumstances would make otherwise unachievable. You can read more about this here: The Anniversary Fund - Life Changing Bursaries

To make this fundraising event as exciting and impactful as we can, we are asking for your help. We hope that you might see this as a particularly special and exciting one-off opportunity to open the School up to deserving young people from very different backgrounds.

Please, therefore, consider supporting our Auction by donating gift certificates, merchandise, services or access to remarkable, one-off experiences for others to enjoy. Your donation will be listed in the Digital Auction Brochure that will be sent to all members of our local and wider communities. As a guide, we are hoping to have a minimum reserve of £250 for each item, and our fundraising target for the event is £250,000. We are particularly keen, for example, to recruit lots offering experiences – attendance at exceptional events, a chance to holiday in unusual places, or even an offer of unusual work experience placements! We would like this event to be fun for all those engaging with the Auction, as well as opening up opportunities for life-changing bursary pupils.

We will be running an email/postal auction in the lead up to the event and a Live Auction on the night of the event itself.

We understand that not everyone will feel in a position to contribute – with an auction lot, or by bidding on a lot, and we do not want anyone to feel under pressure to take part in any way. At the same time, however, we would like to share this opportunity across our community.

If you would like to contribute a ‘promise’, we will need to receive it by Friday 15th December 2023 to include it in the auction brochure. Please fill out the form HERE. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you in advance for considering our request and for supporting this event.
