On a glorious afternoon at Ashridge Golf Club, the Neale Cup was cleaned up and cobwebs removed, and the School golf team took on the Old Berkhamstedians Team in the first match since 2009.
Sandwiches and cake were devoured before!!
Pair 1 School won
Bartlett and Spooner played C Mach and J Lyle
Spooner dictated the result of this game playing off his ‘bandit’ handicap and hitting every green to leave the Old Boys struggling to compete.
Pair 2 Old Boys won 4-3
Rouse and Eyles v O Holdroyd and S Lyle
Eyles didn’t play very well and although Rouse carried him most of the way around the Old Boys proved too strong.
Pair 3 Old Boys won 2-1
Matthews and Tranter v A Bale and Ben Evers (honorary OB and Head of Golf)
Although Matthews and Tranter played well, Evers chipping game around the green meant the OB’s won 2-1
Pair 4 School won on the last
McGee and Eynon v M Dennehy and M Atkins
Although Eynon kept the School in it in the early holes, McGee finished strongly to see the School get a well deserved tie.
Thank you to all the Old Boys, especially Matt Dennehey for getting the Neale Cup up and running again.
