4 OBs Taking England Lacrosse to New Heights

In the current England Senior National team there are four Old Berko players including myself ( Emma Savage), Emma Oakley, Emily Gray, Sofia wise, plus Georgie Hurt, one of our coaches. Both Emma Oakley and Emily Gray were part of the squad in 2022, where the team went to the world championships in Maryland and clinched the bronze medal. Sofia and I both received our first England caps in April 2023, and Emma Oakley and Emily have played in multiple world championships both with two bronze medals. All four of us also play for Great Britain, which is hugely exciting as the sport has been chosen to be in the LA Olympics in 2028, in a six-a-side format (called Sixes). Emma Oakley, Emily and I all recently returned from Hong Kong over new year where we won gold with GB in a 'Super Sixes' tournament.

The next step in our journey with England lacrosse is the upcoming European Championships in July. However, the main goal we're all working towards is to win gold at the World Championships in Japan in 2026.

However, lacrosse is currently a completely unfunded sport, with players self-funding all aspects of the game from personal equipment to international competition. As British and England lacrosse players, we are all dual-career athletes - training whilst working or studying full time. The cost to train, compete and go for gold is approximately £6000 per player per year.

As a result, England lacrosse players are looking for sponsorship and support to help keep their journey alive.

If you would like to get involved in sponsorship – please contact Emma directly at Emma@the-savages.co.uk
