Set up in 2010, the Old Berkhamstedian Sailing Club, this year celebrates its 10 Year Anniversary.
This dynamic club brings together OBs of all ages and sailing ability, and really is open to anyone who wants to experience some sailing, in comfort of familiar surroundings and experienced OB skippers and first mates.
Since its formation, the club has expanded its activities as the club has grown and has involved over 150 OBs during this time, taking part in the following activities and events:
2013 Fastnet Race
2016, 2017 and 2018 Arrow Trophy (for Alumni organisations of Independent Schools)
Annual Spring and Autumn Cruises in and around the Solent
Dinners at the RORC Club
Yachtmaster Theory Courses
2019 saw 5 boats filled with 35 OBs join fellow OB Sir Robin Knox-Johnston in Falmouth to be part of the celebrations to mark the 50th Anniversary since Sir Robin set foot back on land after his 312 day voyage around the world, becoming the first man to sail single-handed, non-stop around the world!
All involved had a fantastic Easter weekend in brilliant sunshine and were thrilled to be part of the Flotilla of over 200 boats joining Sir Robin as he replicated crossing the finish line. The group, joined by the 10 strong shore crew, were also invited to join the formal events at St. Mawes Sailing Club and Falmouth Sailing Club, as well as the less formal OB celebrations on the boats each evening! (Read more about the celebrations here.)
To mark the 10 year anniversary of the club, plans are already starting to develop for the club to head abroad, and further details of these will become available soon.
